| Inhalt | Construction Grammars are currently the leading models in linguistic theory. They start with the assumption that linguistic units are form-function mappings, and that generalization or rule abstraction takes place through an analysis of language use. In this seminar, we work through the basics of construction grammar and address a number of phenomena from general rules to idiomatic expression. Of particular interest is the study of constructional change and variation. |
| Lernziele | Students learn how to use Construction Grammar to analyze English sentence structure, as well as (partially) idiomatic expressions. They learn how speakers and hearers process linguistic information in order to use familiar constructions in creative fashion. |
