Inhalt | As mentioned in the title, the starting point of this tutorial is to look into the connection between origins of anthropology in relation to colonialism. This tutorial will be organised along the lines of theoretical approaches discussing topics such as – among others – “racialization”, “othering”, “representation”, “decolonising methodologies”, – integrated within the structure of knowledge-production that requires a good amount of critical reflection. A thorough understanding of these concepts would work as tools aiding in opening up academic discussions and raising new questions in on-going debates. The annotated bibliography for this tutorial is made to bridge theory and practice – where the aforementioned concepts of on-going postcolonial debates will be put into today’s social setting. Together with the participants, the tutors hope to elaborate reading alternatives, discuss about different contexts in-order-to create better comprehension of complicated texts, while creating an academic space to delve into the multi-layered complexities that postcolonial theories present. This tutorial has been primarily tailored to students at the beginning of their studies in anthropology and sociology (currently registered in their bachelor studies) and particularly for students who are interested in these subjects to implement their take-away to better understand current western socio-political-cultural standing. However, all students are welcome, as their knowledge, inputs, and perspectives will be greatly valued. Bearing in mind the difficulties and complexity of the content we want to think about ways of transferring and incorporating knowledge together. We as organizers are ourselves students and want to create herein a space of common self-organised learning and exchange. The language of the course will therefore be discussed in the first session, albeit most of the readings will be in English. |
