Inhalt | Content covered in this lecture (subject to change): 1. Historical perspective on Quantum Mechanics and key experiments. 2. Schrödinger Equation and applications. 3. The harmonic oscillator. 4. Creation and annihilation operators. 5. Axiomatic formulation of Quantum Mechanics. 6. Dirac notation of Quantum Mechanics. 7. Introduction into the Theory of Special Relativity, Minkowski-Space, four-vectors. 8. Relativistic Quantum Mechanics. 9. Dirac Equation. |
Lernziele | The student should be able to understand Quantum Mechanics from a deeper level than in standard lecture courses by covering the mathematical basics of the theory and studying it in the context of physical/chemical applications and problems. Also, an introduction to the treatment of Special Relativity is provided as a prerequisite for understanding relativistic Quantum Mechanics and the Dirac Equation. |
Literatur | Literature suggestions will be provided in the lecture. |
Bemerkungen | The course is open to all students with an interest in learning/understanding Quantum Theory from the bottom up. The mathematical prerequisites will be repeated and developed during the lecture and by means of calculated examples. |
Teilnahmebedingungen | As a prerequisite the student should have good mathematical knowledge in calculus. Also, previous attendance of an introductory course in quantum mechanics will be helpful but is not mandatory. Most important is a genuine interest in learning and understanding the basics of Quantum Theory by looking more detailed into the mathematical foundations and implications of the theory. |
