| Inhalt | As the world’s first country, India obligates large companies to spend 2% of their annual profits on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) projects. The Companies Act 2013 lists different areas to invest the 2%, such as eradicating hunger and poverty, the promotion of education, ensuring environmental sustainability, fostering social business, etc. In this proseminar, we approach concepts of sustainability in India from a sociological, societal, culture- and context-sensitive perspective. The course highlights the importance of social and economic contexts to understand and address today’s sustainability challenges, such as plastic pollution, water scarcity, extreme poverty, or climate change. To grasp the complexity of these challenges and opportunities, we look at the relations between different actors from the public, private, and civic sector and the interdependencies between economic, social, and environmental aspects in 21st century India. |
