Inhalt This block course is the Winter School of the PhD Program in Bioethics, health policy and legal medicine. As part of this course, students will gain extensive and comprehensive knowledge on Research Ethics. The two course coordinators along with invited experts from Switzerland and Abroad will present and discuss various issues starting from history of research ethics, informed consent and their value for contemporary medicine. Also highlighted will be new challenges that research ethics faces with emerging topics (e.g. AI, Big Data) and new research designs that ethics commissions may not be fully prepared to deal with. Finally, we look forward to developing what the future of research ethics will be and developing cutting-edge ideas to design and implement projects that address the research ethics needs of the future.
Lernziele After attending this course, students are expected to be well-aware of the past violations that resulting in the research ethics standards that we have today. They will learn about challenges that research ethics faces, and will contribute towards design and development of interesting research projects on this topic in the future.
Literatur All registered students will receive relevant course readings 2 weeks before the start of the block course.

Hinweise zur Prüfung Pass/Fail.
A pass grade amounts to: (1) 100% Attendance to all sessions on the three course days, (2) reading of the course material and bringing those content as part of the discussion with the different sessions, and (3) five pages reflection on the course preferably discussing next cutting-edge research ethics dilemma. This reflection is due December 1, 2020.
