49081-01 - Doktoratsveranstaltung: Writing for Research in Educational Sciences 3 KP

Semester Herbstsemester 2020
Angebotsmuster unregelmässig
Dozierende Stephan Meyer (stephan.meyer@unibas.ch)
Inhalt Writing academic texts in correct, clear, coherent and convincing language is a vital competence that can be acquired. This course provides a structured collaborative process that supports participants in developing this competence. At the same time, it guides them to compose concrete output in the form of a manuscript such as a proposal or research article that is ready for submission. Participants should ideally join this hands-on course when they are already working on a proposal or publication. If they start with a first draft, the course helps them turn it into a submittable text for a funder or publisher; if they start only with data and/or a concept, it helps them create a draft.

Lernziele This is a practical course in which participants develop academic writing competencies by preparing a text for submission to a publisher, supervisor or funder.

Participants can write a convincing article or research proposal in English that relates to their dissertation project, paying attention to genre, organisation, argumentation, style, flow, presentation and language.
Literatur The lecturer will distribute a script and readings on the writing process and style.
Bemerkungen This course will be conducted in English. It is open to doctoral candidates from other disciplines, especially those whose research any of the various aspects of education, learning and teaching.
