Inhalt | In this course, we will delve into the literary world of the Pulitzer Prize-winning writer Jhumpa Lahiri, who, in an interview, stated: "I believe that all writing is a form of resistance. The aim of literature is to contradict convention, to challenge banality, to turn reality on its head, and to defy the passage of time." Born in London to Bengali parents, raised in Rhode Island and currently living in Brooklyn after having lived in Rome for some years, Lahiri's work is especially marked by interventions in debates on migration, transnationalism, class and gender. In addition to the discussion of her first short story collection, "Interpreter of Maladies", and her two novels "The Namesake" and "The Lowland", we will also consider her fascination with Italian and her recent decision to write in Italian. |
