| Inhalt | Media of Critical Preservation is a cross-disciplinary course focused on new readings of media (photography, film, digital visualisation techniques and surveillance footage, vegetation and chemical analysis of soils). Some central questions of the seminar are: What does heritage mean today ? How do we read tangible and intangible heritages? What are the tools and the optics of preservation? How do they inform contemporary art practices? How can we decode the specific formal language of preservation, migration of military aesthetics (i.e., drones, scanning devices, night vision and x-ray technology) to the territory of art history? How do we read politically and ideologically charged art and architecture ? (e.g., in war and conflict zones as Israel, Syria or Ukrain). On the one hand, preservation is a highly applied field of studies, but on the other hand, students will learn to operate on the margins of conventional narratives expanding to the territories of: archeology, museology and memory studies. The course will be joined by experts : Eyal Weizman (Goldsmith, London) and Ines Weizman (Royal College of Art, London), Jorge Otero- Pailos (Columbia University in New York) and Olga Osadtschy (Kunstmuseum Basel). |
