| Inhalt | Migration has become one of the most contested issues in European politics. This seminar focuses on the impact of migration on European politics and provides an introduction to the main scholarly debates in the study of migration and citizenship in empirically oriented political science. The seminar is structured into four parts. In the first part, we discuss the key terms of the scholarly literature. The second part focuses on the political dynamics of immigration in receiving countries. We discuss how individuals and parties have responded to large scale immigration and address the dynamics of the Brexit referendum and the refugee crisis. The third part examines the political consequences of emigration in sending countries that have so far received much less attention in the public debate and scholarly literature compared to immigration. The final part of the seminar looks at issues related to the integration of immigrants. The seminar covers these topics by discussing cutting-edge political science research using sophisticated empirical methods. |
