| Inhalt | The colloquium “Reversing the Gaze” is an interdisciplinary forum to reflect on methodological, conceptual and theoretical issues related to knowledge production in Area Studies and comparative social sciences. The focus of this semester is on the translation and operationalization of social scientific concepts in specific historical contexts and socio-cultural environments. The colloquium will engage with methodological and theoretical issues bearing on the translation of concepts across regions, across disciplines, and across academic and non-academic contexts. The colloquium combines input by invited speakers, presentations by participants, and reading sessions on core literature. This colloquium is co-organized by the Universities of Basel, Zurich, and Edinburgh as well as the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies (Geneva) in the framework of the research project “Reversing the Gaze: Towards Post-Comparative Area Studies” (www.reversingthegaze.net). |
| Lernziele | The colloquium offers participants an opportunity to engage with recent debates and new approaches related to comparison in the social sciences in general and in Area Studies in particular, and to discuss their on-going research with regards to methodological, conceptual and theoretical issues. |
