Inhalt | This course introduces students to the major topics in international macroeconomics and finance. The main focus is on international interdependence: of economic and financial activity; of goods and asset prices; and of economic policies. After reviewing the key determinants of external variables (terms of trade, exchange rate, current account, capital flows etc.), and how these variables affect domestic allocations (output, employment, inflation, asset prices), we will address the question of how economic policy can improve economic outcomes. Furthermore, we will discuss the effects and gains from international financial integration. Finally, students will learn how to set up, solve, and analyze a simple 2-country (DSGE) model using a computer. Some support for exploring and elaborating data using R will be provided. (Note: knowledge of these computational aspects will not be evaluated at the exam!) |
Literatur | Part of the lecture material is based on Open Economy Macroeconomics, (Uribe, Martin, and Stephanie Schmitt-Grohé.
