Inhalt Inhalt (Summary of content): Happiness is trendy both in academic and popular culture—self-help books and websites guiding to the pursuit of happiness have proliferated over the last decade. This course will engage students in a multidisciplinary approach to well-being and happiness, spanning fields such as philosophy, psychology and neuro-science. Students will engage in a series of mini-experiments designed to increase their happiness and build resilience. In addition, students will be introduced to readings from great thinkers who have pondered the issue of happiness for centuries (e.g. how can we measure happiness, how do we define happiness and maybe more importantly how can we find it?). Our times of rapid changes, and uncertainty, raise these authors to a renewed importance. Ultimately students will be prepared to incorporate these well-being theories and tools into their personal and professional lives.
Lernziele Students will
1. Gain self-awareness about their strengths & make their personal future professional profile appear clearer
2. Become familiar with some philosophical and psychological approaches to well-being;
3. Understand the principles behind why specific activities might boost well-being;
4. Learn how to use well-being theories and tools to increase well-being in your personal and professional lives;

4. Personal mini-experiments or re-re-wirements:
The experiments are called “rewirements” because they’re practices aimed at rewiring your habits. Research suggests that if you do these rewirements, you should get a boost in your overall well-being. Students will be asked to put some of these experiments (developed by psychologists) to the empirical test, by critically assessing the strengths and challenges of the interventions as well as the personal response you felt while completing them. Examples of experiments include: (1) finding your character strengths; (2) random acts of kindness; (3) meditation (4) Try an exercise in self- compassion (5) Mindful photography or music. For each experiment students will write a short written report of approx.250 words.
