| Inhalt | This 8-week fieldwork course trains students in site-specific research and community outreach. The Spring 2022 site of focus for this track will be in Palestine/Israel where students will attempt to unpack the inherent tensions between power, space, law and violence in the territory as a single geographic unit. Participants will work closely with practitioners on the ground to learn together how to use theory and empirical fieldwork to discuss conflicts and identity-formation as simultaneous processes of place-and space-making. In doing so, we examine how the urban present and racialized inequalities experienced by Palestinian citizens, residents and refugees are linked to colonial legacies and neo-colonial realities and hierarchies of power. The methods we mobilize include participant observation, interviews, collective learning and reading, visual and spatial analysis, mapping and direct action. Logistics and Finance: The University of Basel provides a small grant to help cover the costs of the travel and logistics of the semester.
