Inhalt | Culture and education: Understanding the role culture plays in organizing teaching and learning by using the theory of sociocultural models. 1. Statement of the problem. Education as the sociocultural institution that is shaped by values and norms of society. The fundamental role of education in the multicultural world. Education and immigration. 3. The problem of culture and education. What is culture? How can we understand it? How culture influences people's experience and behaviour? How culture can affect education? What are the mechanisms of these impacts? The theory of sociocultural models (TSCM) as one of the answers to these questions. Introduction to this theory. 4. Sociocultural models of teaching, learning, and learners. What are they and how to study them? An application of the TSCM to education. 5. Discussion of the covered topics, Q&A, future directions.
