| Inhalt | The concepts of identity construction has long been discussed in linguistics. We will review the development of this field and discuss how it intersects with interpersonal pragmatics and the study of relational work as well as other linguistic disciplines. Students will then focus on empirical work that looks at linguistic cues that construct and negotiate ideologies related to (competing) identities. We will work with data collected from naturally-occurring every data or fictional data sources in order to sharpen our understanding of how identity construction cues reflect and shape ideologies. |
| Lernziele | At the end of this course, students - can discuss the developments in linguistic identity research - can critically work with concepts such as style, variation and identity construction - have gained experience in writing a critical review - can develop a research project of their own |
