69408-01 - Seminar: Narratives 3 KP

Semester Herbstsemester 2023
Angebotsmuster unregelmässig
Dozierende Miriam Locher (miriam.locher@unibas.ch, BeurteilerIn)
Inhalt Narratives are all pervasive in human interaction and fulfil both a cognitive and a social need in communication. Telling a story can have many different functions and be realized in many different ways and with different levels of skill. After having established the classic terminology in describing narratives in face-to-face interaction (as developed by Labov for English data), we will also explore small stories and tiny stories and compare this to more elaborated acts of narrating in different contexts. Students will all contribute a recorded and transcribed narrative of their own and will share this data for analysis with others.
Lernziele At the end of this course students
- can explain the interactional co-constructed achievement of a story-telling event
- have gained experience in applying theoretical concepts to their own data
- can develop new research questions of their own
