| Inhalt | Content Labour market policy comprises the set of all policies with which the government intervenes in the labour market. In this course, we discuss challenges that labour market policy faces today. Examples are: the demographic development, the digital transformation and, in particular, artificial intelligence, the labour market integration of immigrants, new forms of work, wage inequality or making work pay. In this course, we discuss selected challenges faced by labour market policy and possible ways in which it could respond. In particular, we discuss how different policy interventions could help to master these challenges. We start by discussing the theoretical effects of policy interventions and continue with contrasting them with empirical evidence on their effects in reality. The ultimate objective is to develop recommendations regarding the suitability of specific policy measures. Structure The course takes place in an interactive self-study format. During the first meeting student receive inputs for the tasks they will work on. In the second meeting, students present first results, during the last meeting the final results. Students work on the tasks in groups of 1-3 students, depending on class size. The final output of this course is a written expertise. |
| Lernziele | Learning objectives The objective of the course is twofold. On the one hand, it aims to enable students to make informed decisions about policy proposals that affect the labour market, for example, when they have to vote on specific proposals. On the other hand, the course aims to enable students to prepare a written expertise that serves as input for the decision making process of policy makers. |

| Teilnahmebedingungen | Prerequisites Students should be familiar with basic economic models and standard economic reasoning. Prior knowledge of labour economics is helpful but not required. Understanding the challenges involved in quantifying effects of policies and being able to judge the quality of empirical studies is helpful, too. |

| Hinweise zur Leistungsüberprüfung | Throughout the colloquium, students receive and are expected to incorporate input and also to provide feedback to their fellow students. The final grade is based on the written expertise (50%), the presentations (20% each) and active participation throughout the course (10%). |
