| Inhalt | In the global pursuit of sustainable development (SD), China's journey from rapid industrialization to acceptance of SD principles provides critical insights. As the world's second-largest economy, China's development highlights a significant shift toward environmental stewardship amid challenges like plastic pollution and greenhouse gas emissions. China's approach to sustainability, characterized by ambitious governmental policies and rapid technological advancements, offers a distinctive model that contrasts with those of more developed economies. This model demonstrates the potential for large-scale environmental impact and poses challenges and learning opportunities. This seminar will cover various topics associated with sustainability in China, highlighting challenges, problem-solving strategies, and opportunities for research and practice. Through case studies, it will provide insights into how China's green strategies—from energy and mobility to agriculture and economic support—challenge and shape global sustainability in localized action and international cooperation. These cases illustrate environmental challenges in economic development during societal transformation. This seminar examines China's commitments and challenges related to SD to enrich our understanding of sustainable practices and the complexity and comprehensiveness of these transitions. It illustrates the similarities and differences between European conceptions and practices of sustainability and those associated with BRICS countries, specifically China. It emphasizes the importance of mutual learning and cooperation between different cultures and development landscapes, strengthening the interconnectedness of sustainability efforts. |
