Inhalt | The workshop will be facilitated by Lukas S. Huber, SNSF doc.CH fellow at the Department of Psychology, University of Bern. As a scientist, you're frequently required to present your research to others—whether in lab meetings, conferences, or during discussions with supervisors or collaborators. In these situations, visual aids, such as slides, are essential for effectively communicating your message. A polished and well-designed presentation allows your audience to better follow and understand your research. When your audience understands, they provide valuable input and feedback, which can ultimately improve your work. Success in delivering a clear message heavily depends on the visual elements you present alongside your spoken words. In this workshop, we’ll focus on improving slide design for more effective research communication. In the first part of the workshop, we’ll cover the following key topics: Choosing the right software for creating your presentation Starting your presentation effectively Keeping your audience oriented throughout the talk Using animations purposefully Selecting and incorporating images Enhancing the visual appeal and consistency of your slides (color schemes, patterns, fonts, spacing, etc.) Effectively presenting your data Handling slides with large amounts of text Designing for accessibility (color contrast, readable fonts, alt-text for images) Optimizing slides for online presentations Throughout the workshop, there will be hands-on activities such as redesign exercises and data visualization tasks. You will also work on creating or refining a presentation based on your own research, which you will present on the second workshop day. During these presentations, we’ll provide feedback and discuss the visual design aspects in detail. |
