| Inhalt | With far-right regimes from Brazil to the US to India to Europe ascendant in the current moment—many of which have been referred to as “fascist” by scholars because of their targeting of minorities, authoritarian tactics, and bolstering of corporate power—it is imperative that we examine how fascism impacts urban politics, housing and land, and environmental justice. This course will provide a comparative and global examination of the relationship between authoritarian and illiberal populist regimes and urban political ecologies. We will draw on a range of literatures across political science, critical international relations theory, geography, and anthropology to consider how urban human-environment relations are being reshaped in the current moment. We will also study what it means to do research on urban inequalities marked by race, class, gender, and other axes of difference at a time of state repression. |
