| Inhalt | This workshop will be held by Dr. Melchior Glatthard. This workshop focuses on helping scientists present their research clearly, confidently, and persuasively. With practical tips and hands-on exercises, participants will learn how to explain complex ideas, teach effectively, and engage their audience. The course emphasizes on-stage performance skills, including posture, body language, gestures, voice, articulation, facial expression, and eye contact. Participants will learn the theoretical foundations of effective communication and immediately apply them in practice. Participants will refine their impromptu speaking skills and work on a prepared scientific presentation within their own field of expertise. The workshop provides a supportive, interdisciplinary environment with ample opportunity for individual feedback. Trainer: Dr. Melchior Glatthard holds a PhD in Law and works as a Notary Public and Attorney at Law. In 2017, he won the European Championships of Public Speaking in Humorous Speech and Impromptu Speech (Toastmasters, District 59, South-West Europe). Since then, he has conducted public speak-ing workshops at universities (e.g., University of Bern, ETH Zurich Alumni, ETH Zurich MaP, University of Basel (BEACON)) and for various companies, including Johnson & Johnson, EY Switzerland, SBB Cargo, and SWICA. | Lernziele | Participants will: i. identify their individual strengths and areas for improvement in public speaking ii. learn how to prepare speeches efficiently and effectively iii. present scientific content in a way that connects with their audience iv. strengthen their speaking skills through practical exercises and personalized feedback The workshop combines theory with practice in plenary sessions. |
| Bemerkungen | The workshop is offered by the Graduate School of Psychology. Maximum number of participants: 12. Selection criteria: 1. Currently a PhD candidate in psychology 2. First come - first served GSP rules for withdrawal, absence, or partial course attendance: If you cannot attend a workshop that you have signed up for, please cancel your course registration as soon as possible by sending an e-mail to angela.leipold@unibas.ch. This will allow other PhD students interested in the course to move up from the waiting list. The GSP strongly values fairness. After the university’s official registration period has ended, cancelled course will be assessed with NE. Course registrations can be cancelled until one week before the workshops begins. In the case of late cancellations, participants will not be considered for course registration in the next three months of the lecture periods and will be removed from the registration list of any course they have signed up during these three upcoming months of the lecture periods. If an urgent, unforeseeable, or inevitable event before or during the workshop prevents a participant from attending, a written and substantiated withdrawal request that includes appropriate documentation (e.g. a doctor’s note) must be submitted to angela.leipold@unibas.ch within two days of the work-shop and without being prompted. The program director decides on the approval of the withdrawal request. ECTS-points are awarded only for 100% course attendance. |
