Inhalt | What topics are available ? We propose the following three research topics. They are interdisciplinary and are well suited for a comparative study from a Swiss/European and American perspective. (i) The "fibre to the home" issue in the market for fixed telephone communication: Competition versus regulation, strategies of the incumbents and new investors, the role of "service public", open access and innovation. This topic is extremely well suited for a comparative analysis of past developments and current policy issues. It is mainly rooted in Economics. (ii) The UBS versus the IRS. Economic, political, legal and ethical aspects of complex negotiations and the resulting treaty between the Swiss and the US - Government. This topic is mainly focused on legal and political issues. (iii) The pharmaceutical industry in a research - based race towards innovation in framework marked by strategic competitive strategies and international regulatory approaches with regard to approval of new drugs, pricing and international trade. This topic is again primarily oriented towards Economics and Business. (iv) As an option to these top-down proposals, we encourage also the submission of another topic chosen by the team. However, the final decision of the feasibility of all projects rests with Prof. Mayo and Prof. Borner. |
