Inhalt | Globalization, in the most broadest sense, refers to the "growing interconnectedness and interrelatedness of all aspects of society“ (N. Bisley). Such wide-ranging definition allows for a significant spectrum of theoretical approaches to observe, describe, and critically engage with processes of globalization. Some of the more striking concepts concern the experience of time and space, or the stretching of social relations facilitated by communications technology, the global media and transportation. Yet, the theoretical landscape that surrounds the term globalization rather neglects the religious dimension. This course traces some key concepts of globalization and tries to relate to the question of how religion and globalization may be theorized. Intercultural Theology takes specific interest in (spatial) terms generated by cultural theorists of globalization. In this respect it may relate to phenomena of deterritorialization when, as in migration experiences, social relations become detached from their places of origin and transferred to new territories and socio-cultural contexts. Amongst some other imaginative terms we find hybridity, contact zones, or religio-scapes. |
