Inhalt | The joint seminar gives an overview on discourses on the relationship between religion and politics in Africa. Although it discusses diverse classical approaches within the sociology of religion, a focus will be set on contemporary contributions on this topic. A series of case-studies serve to substantiate, critically reflect, and discuss those diverse theoretical frameworks. |
Lernziele | Students should be able to discern different methodological tools and approaches in the sociology of religion. They should be able to relate those conceptual designs to the multifaceted field of religion in African. The intense discussion of diffrent African religious movements and religious traditions should clarify the contextual differences in the relationship between religion and politics in Africa. to relate religion and politics, with a specific focus on Africa. Case-studies presented in diverse religious fileds and societal contexts in Africa in order to reflect basic questions in the sociology of religion. |
