| Inhalt | This seminar helps students prepare themselves for interdisciplinary research in the context of European Global Studies. They will be familiarized with several research designs between and across the disciplines of political science, law, economics and history, but also learn to understand the current state of these disciplines as the outcome of historical and contingent developments. Learning about the strong and weak points of explicitly disciplinary state-of-the-art approaches prepares the ground for productive and careful interdisciplinary research. Of course, there are many contending theories of interdisciplinarity informing different approaches. We will present and discuss some of these theories in great detail. We shall then turn from theory to practice and examine a sample of interdisciplinary research articles in European Global Studies for their concrete approaches. This leads us to the final question about the possible shapes of an interdisciplinary research design that is more than a mere sequential application of disciplinary approaches and more than an incoherent jumble of cherry-picked disciplinary elements. |
