Dozierende Stefanie Bailer (stefanie.bailer@unibas.ch, BeurteilerIn)
Inhalt The main goal of the course is to enable students to get to know key conflicts within and about the European Union. Based on the book “Key controversies in European Integration” and additional literature on conflicts in the EU, we will get to know central questions which are discussed within the EU and in its various politcies (e.g. agricultural policy, defense, etc). In the first part of the course we will discuss central questions about the usefulness of international cooperation, about the goal of the EU, identity in the EU and a lack of democracy in the EU. This will be followed by discussions on who is a dominating actor in the EU, e.g. the EU Court of Justice, interest groups, or big business. In the last part we discuss central EU policies, e.g. Economic and Monetary Union, the Common Agricultural Policy, and External Policy
