| Inhalt | This seminar will equip students with the necessary basics to deal with concepts in English phonetics and phonology. The syllabus closely follows the structure of the textbook, and covers topics such as articulatory speech sound descriptions, assimilation, supra-segmentals, and allophonic variation. While the focus throughout the course will be on English, examples of phonetic features found in other languages, including implosives/ejective/click consonants and phonemic tone, will occasionally be drawn on. | Lernziele | Students will become thoroughly familiar with the IPA and its application to British English (RP) pronunciation. They will acquire solid bases in phonetic transcription and learn about the vocal apparatus. |
