| Inhalt | This seminar prepares students to critically engage with approaches to interdisciplinary research in the context of European Global Studies. We will explore the intricacies of several research designs between and across the disciplines of political science, law, economics and history, and contend with the historically contingent emergence and development of these disciplines as they inform contemporary research praxis. Learning about the strengths and weaknesses of advanced approaches employed within disciplinary boundaries will lay the groundwork for our understanding of interdisciplinary research. We will build on this understanding by discussing multiple theories of interdisciplinarity in detail. Turning from theory to practice, we shall further examine concrete approaches to interdisciplinary research through a contemporary topic in European Global Studies, namely the challenges brought about by the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) in relation to specific European regions and countries. This will enable us to formulate interdisciplinary research designs that go beyond both the sequential application of disciplinary approaches, and the haphazard grouping of tenuously related disciplinary elements. |
