Inhalt This course focuses on advanced interdisciplinary research skills for Master in Critical Urbanisms students who are preparing for their thesis work. Students will be trained to bring together the research skills that were developed in previous modules (the Ways of Knowing the City module as well as either the Urbanism from the South, Urbanism across Geographies, or Anthropological Fieldwork modules. The goal is to enrich our analytical methods from the perspective of more than one discipline and through specifically targeted exercises focusing on: 1) embodied and fieldwork-based research, 2) studies of materiality, 3) archive-based research, 4) discourse analysis, 5) image and visual analysis 6) oral history and auditory research, 7) creative writing and narrative. Students will be guided to develop their individual thesis proposal as well as a seminar paper focused on interdisciplinary methodology.
Lernziele - The ability develop an independent, interdisciplinary urban research project
- The ability to integrate methods, approaches, and theoretical frameworks from different disciplines into a research project and their current work.
- The ability to work across media, connecting visual methods and spatial practices with narrative development
- hands-on skills in visual, material, and discursive research while engaging with intellectual debates that mobilize these
Bemerkungen Master of Critical Urbanisms students who have completed the Ways of Knowing the City module, and either the Urbanism from the South, Urbanism across Geographies, or Anthropological Fieldwork module.
