| Inhalt | How does culture shape educational progress? How does learning affect cultural activity? Why do human beings learn the way they do? Anthropology of education is concerned with the cultural aspects of education. This class is for students interested in developing a nuanced understanding of how and what people teach and learn across different social, cultural, and regional contexts. We will discuss how culture is acquired by individuals and groups through such processes, as well as the difference between formal and informal learning, the varieties of how to acquire knowledge and skill, native methods of learning, ethnic identity, and change. Core aim of this class is to help us position ourselves in the debate, and to re-think what it is we are doing when we educate others, and ourselves. You will need no prior knowledge of anthropology of education, but merely willingness to carefully read, think about, and discuss the texts. |
| Teilnahmevoraussetzungen | The number of participants is limited to 20 people. The places are assigned according to date of enrollment and subject of study. Priority will be given to the subjects listed under "modules". |
