73093-01 - Vorlesung: Basel Sustainability Forum: Societal Perspectives (2 KP)

Semester Herbstsemester 2024
Angebotsmuster einmalig
Dozierende Manfred Max Bergman (max.bergman@unibas.ch, BeurteilerIn)
Inhalt While the scale of sustainability challenges we face and the urgency for timely solutions are mostly clear, the ways in which societies are adapting or need to adapt are not. This year, the Basel Sustainability Forum lecture series will address sustainability from a societal perspective. Scholars from different disciplines will present approaches and research on how different societies navigate sustainability transformations. Specifically, we will focus on Switzerland and two BRICS countries, India and Brazil, to highlight communalities of problems, yet differences in scale and approach. The topics covered in this year’s Forum will include food security, energy, health, forests, and community building. This year’s lecture series aims to develop international and intercultural sensitivities and knowledge as part of a dialogue in the service of global sustainability transitions.

The final session on 18 December will take place in person at the Brasilea Foundation and will include a roundtable with guests representing viewpoints from Switzerland, India, and Brazil. At this final event, you will also have access to the current exhibition at the Brasilea Foundation, entitled "Handel & Wandel" (https://brasilea.com/portfolio_page/handelundwandel/).

All presentations will be held in English. Given the international format of this semester’s BSF series (at least 8 speakers will present from India or Brazil), all events will be held via zoom. For those who wish to attend the series in person, I will arrange a meeting space where we can watch and interact with presenters from a university location.

Bemerkungen All presentations will be held in English. Given the international format of this year's BSF series (at least 8 speakers will present from India or Brazil), all lectures and discussions will be held via zoom, excluding the final event on 18 December. For those who wish to attend the series in person, I will arrange a meeting space where we can watch and interact with presenters from a university location.

Participants will be able to acquire one or two additional credit points. More information about these options, as well as a list of BSF presenters, are accessible via Mona. It is also possible to write a seminar paper associated with this series.

This year’s Basel Sustainability Forum is organized in collaboration with Swissnex India, Swissnex Brazil, and the Brasilea Foundation. The final event will include a roundtable and after-event activities at the Brasilea Foundation (Westquai 39, 4019 Basel).
