| Inhalt | Students will learn how to write effective papers in their field. Students will work on regular writing tasks and receive input from both the lecturer and from peers in class as well. This is a hands-on course, so it is important to have a laptop computer all the time for classroom writing tasks. |
| Lernziele | Students will learn how to write about their research in effective ways. |
| Literatur | Some PDFs will be provided by the lecturer. We will also use Writing Science in Plain English by Anne Greene (University of Chicago Press, 2013). For students who did not take the Scientific Writing MSc seminar at the University of Basel, then Writing for Computer Science by Justin Zobel (Springer, 2014, 3rd edition) is highly recommended reading as well. |
| Bemerkungen | All lectures, readings, classes, and tasks are in English. Students should already have B2 level English or higher to get the most out of the course. Students are also expected to attend all classes and do all tasks (being absent one day is the maximum allowed). |
| Teilnahmevoraussetzungen | Only PhD students in the University of Basel Data Analytics PhD Program. |
