| Inhalt | This course explores the complex dynamics of peacebuilding in contexts of violent conflict between repressive states or armies and populations struggling for political self-determination. Drawing on insights from political anthropology, the course examines the multiple and contested meanings of peace in self-determination struggles around the world. In particular, students will investigate the limits and possibilities of peace initiatives – both dop-down and bottom-up, local and transnational etc. – to move beyond politics of nationalism and intractable conflicts of territorial sovereignty, national identity and political power, and to imagine freedom and social justice in more inclusive ways. Overall, the course will combine discussion of theoretical concepts with emipirical case studies, and will also draw on interdisciplinary perspectives, including those from international relations, sociology, and critical peace and conflict studies. |

| Bemerkungen | Number of places is limited to 35 students. In case of overbooking, priority will be given to students of the Master's Program in European Global Studies. |
