| Inhalt | Regulation of pharmaceuticals and medical devices — life sciences fields of rapid technological growth and innovation — are topics of legal, economic, and policy significance. We will study how technological advances, especially artificial intelligence, in the pharmaceutical and medical device industry challenge and demand redefinition of the institutional relationships between the federal Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and courts, and of the mechanisms of supervision and control provided by the market, governmental regulation, and products liability litigation. |

| Literatur | The reading materials will consist of excerpts from law review articles/ book chapters and also case studies (from court cases engaging the topics). |
| Bemerkungen | This course is part of the Summer School in Law, Business and Economic Policy. For students enrolled in the study program "Master of Law", this course counts as an extra-faculty electives (ausserfakultäres Wahlfach). For students enrolled in the study program "Master of Business Law" it counts towards the regular study program (see also guidelines 2 study programs) Update: This course will be conducted via Zoom. The assessment format remains unchanged. |

| Anmeldung zur Lehrveranstaltung | All applications have to be processed through the Summer School office. The enrollment for the course is at the same time the final registration for the exam! The online application is open from 20 February - 17 March 2025. Applications that are submitted by 3 March (23:55) will be handled on a priority basis. | Hinweise zur Prüfung | Course attendance is compulsary. Attendance and good preparation are prerequisites for being a valuable participant in the class. You are expected to prepare for and attend every class and participate actively. Grading will be determined by class participation (25%), one in-class presentation (25%) and a final written, closed-book examination (50%).
