Inhalt | This course explores the entanglements of technology, nature and power by revisiting recent developments in artificial intelligence (AI) through the lens of ecofeminist perspectives. The course is organized in three one-day sessions, plus a kick-off session. Day 1 is about doing the analytical groundwork by discussing foundational and more recent texts on ecofeminism and queer ecology. These works theorize the entanglements of technology and nature from a feminist, gender or queer perspective. Day 2 is about engaging with the material dimensions of AI by working in small groups on current work on AI, bringing in the analytical perspectives from Day 1 and preparing student presentations for Day 3. Day 3 is about bringing ecofeminism and AI together by engaging with and discussing student presentations. Details can be found in the syllabus, which is made available at the beginning of the semester via ADAM. |
Lernziele | Teaching objectives: - in-depth understanding of ecofeminist perspectives; - in-depth knowledge of the material dimensions of AI; - reading, discussion and presentation skills. |
Bemerkungen | The course is based on the idea of a collective and solidary teaching/learning space that is actively supported and shaped by all participants. It is based on the University of Basel's Code of Conduct, which commits all university members to the values of “integrity, respect, openness, equality and inclusion”. On this basis, the aim is to work together to create a care-ful teaching/learning environment. This means striving to practice (a) a discrimination-sensitive attitude and language, (b) a critical and sensitive approach to and with each other and (c) to the topics and texts discussed. If you have any accessibility needs in order to participate in the course as fully as possible, please contact me as early as possible so that we can look for possible solutions together. |
