| Inhalt | This course examines the roles of money and alternative payment instruments in modern economies, with a focus on the frictions that render money essential and welfare-enhancing. Building on this foundation, it analyzes key microeconomic and macroeconomic aspects of monetary theory and policy. |
| Lernziele | Develop a deep and structured understanding of money and financial systems. Students engage directly with frontier research, acquiring the ability to read, critically assess, and internalize advanced economic literature. |
| Literatur | The lecture is based on the book "Money, Payments, and Liquidity" (MIT Press, 2nd edition) by Guillaume Rocheteau (University of California, Irvine) and Ed Nosal (Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta). |
| Bemerkungen | After the lecture 'Monetary Theory', the lecture 'Advanced Monetary Theory' starts. In this second part the students will present a paper at the research frontier of monetary theory. The papers will be based on the theory that we just learned. The final grade for 'Advanced Monetary Theory' is based on the presentation. Participation when other students present is mandatory. |
