65942-01 - Vorlesung: Advanced Monetary Theory (3 KP)

Semester Herbstsemester 2026
Angebotsmuster Jedes Herbstsemester
Dozierende Aleksander Berentsen (aleksander.berentsen@unibas.ch, BeurteilerIn)
Inhalt Advanced Monetary Theory builds on the foundations established in Monetary Theory. The key distinction is methodological: this course engages directly with original research papers to develop advanced analytical skills and to provide a first-hand understanding of how economic research is conducted.

The thematic focus remains aligned with Monetary Theory. We examine the roles of money and alternative payment instruments in modern economies, with particular emphasis on the frictions that render money essential. Building on this framework, the course explores both microeconomic and macroeconomic dimensions of monetary theory and policy.
Lernziele Develop a deep and structured understanding of money and financial systems. Students engage directly with frontier research, acquiring the ability to read, critically assess, and internalize advanced economic literature.
Literatur We will discuss research papers at the frontier of monetary economics.
Bemerkungen Some sessions may be conducted online via Zoom. Any such changes will be communicated in advance.
