Inhalt This course provides hands-on training in effective scientific communication. Participants will develop skills in public speaking, storytelling, and critical scientific discussion, while exploring current topics and methods in ecology and sustainable development. Students will present their own work and engage in scientific discussions.

Good practice in scientific presentations:
- Learning how to convey ideas effectively;
- Handling storytelling and public speaking.

Current topics, scientific approaches and new methods in ecology and sustainable development:
Presentation and discussion of own research projects (including master's theses);
Presentation and discussion of important, groundbreaking publications.
Lernziele Participants will:
- practice and improve their performance skills in the context of a presentation of scientific data;
- practice and improve their ability to critically discuss scientific articles;
- acquire knowledge about current topics, approaches and methods of scientific sustainability research (from the perspective of the natural sciences).
Bemerkungen MSD (both curricula)
Mandatory course for ALL students with focus area/major in natural sciences or in the MSD without major but writing a MT in natural sciences (regardless of how the supervision and assessment of the master's thesis is organized ).

This course is offered by the MSD. Marina Garrido Priego (post doc) is working in the research group Landscape Ecology and Ecosystem Conservation (short: Ecosy)/Dep. of Environmental Sciences, Faculty of Natural Sciences.

 

Teilnahmevoraussetzungen MSD 2017
Only for the students with focus area in natural sciences; they enroll for the colloquium once they have started with the MT, and have done the presentation of concept of the MT (colloquium 52317).

MSD 2026
Students with major in social sciences or in economics and management: the credit points will be recognized for the "Complementary Knowledge in Natural Sciences" module.
Students of the MSD 2026 with major in natural sicences or those doing the MSD without major but writing a master's thesis (MT) in natural sciences enroll for the colloquium once they have started with the MT, and have done the presentation of concept of the MT (colloquium 52317).

PhD students from the Ecosy group are also welcome.

Anmeldung zur Lehrveranstaltung Course enrollment on online services should be completed by the beginning of the teaching period (withdrawal possible until Monday of teaching week five), at the latest until 14. September 2026.
