| Inhalt | This seminar provides an introductory survey on the core issues in first language acquisition. We will examine typical courses of acquisition regarding the lexicon, the morphology and syntax in English, and analyze some dataset in order to explore typical developmental phenomena in the structure of children's language and in the patterns of their linguistic interactions. Finally, we will have a look at the - dramatically different - hypotheses major linguistic theories formulate for language acquisition. |
| Lernziele | Students will learn the basic facts of the acquisition of English, and learn to identify and analyze typical phenomena of child language development. In addition, students will be trained in theoretical and methodological thinking by working out how different theories have different assumptions about what language is like. This leads to very different predictions about what the child needs to learn and how s/he does it. |
