Inhalt | a. This is a needs let seminar that builds on the two advanced quantitative research methods courses and the 3 statistic courses that students took in the BA and the MSN1 years. All students will enter the seminar with an approved research proposal for their Masters Degree project (decision curriculum commission INS). Ethical committee approval may still be pending. b. This seminar is tuned towards application of the theoretical knowledge offered in the mentioned research methods and statistics courses. More specifically, the methodological, data collection, data management, data analysis, ethical, practical or writing issues emerging from the different Masters thesis projects will determine the content of this need let seminar. c. A seminar-workshop format will be used. Students will be responsible for participation in class discussions, for the development and presentation of supplemental course readings, for individual critique of different stages of the research paper of their peers. d. Statistical support will be provided and in specific cases experts will be invited to participate to the seminar. The use of computers in data analysis, while recognized as a vital skill, is not the scope of this course as this has been extensively covered in statistics courses. A number of advanced analytical procedures and discussions on their appropriateness relative to the various research designs will be discussed where needed. |
Lernziele | 1. To present, discuss and resolve the methodological, data collection, data management, data analysis, ethical, practical or writing issues emerging from the individual Masters thesis projects 2. To provide support with the different phases of the Masters thesis using peer-review as well as feedback from experts. |
Literatur | Literature will be provided on a need let basis depending on the methodological issues and analysis issues emerging during the seminar out of the different research projects conducted. |
Bemerkungen | Research Paper: Each student enrolled for credit will work on the preparation of a research paper in English to be submitted to a research journal (work in preparation Masters thesis). The paper should be written based on the guidelines for authors of the journal where it will be submitted. The research paper will be submitted twice for grading: at the end of the winter semester and at the end of the summer semester. The goal for the winter semester is to submit the paper until the methods section. The full paper will be submitted at the end of the summer semester. |
