Inhalt | The main goal of the seminar is that the students learn how to write a scientific computer science paper and learn how in "reality" the process of writing a paper looks like. They will learn how to write a paper, what common mistakes should be avoided and how conferences and review systems work. The seminar is based on a simulation of a scientific conference: Each student will hand in a paper, go through the review process and then submit a revised version of the paper. Every student will work on his or her own topic, using for example his/her Bachelor project as a starting point (Master project or current research work for PhD students). The students will be part of a peer-review activity, where they on the one hand get feedback on their own paper and on the other hand give other students feedback. Every student will at the end of the seminar present his/her paper and provide a poster, and an internal proceedings of the papers produced by the students will be "published". As a last activity, we will organize critical discussions of the peer review process (in a large sense) based on the experience gained by the students during the seminar. Different topics will be covered such as quality and fairness of the review process, double blind reviewing vs. public reviews, shadow program committee, (self-)plagiarism. |
