Topics will be finally assigned during the first meeting, where seminar dates and the language of the seminar will be determined. Depending on the number of participants, Biogeographical Literature Seminar I and II will be held during the same time, in bi-weekly alternation, or in separate blocks. However, they will always be on Mondays 16:00-18:00. Guests (not giving a talk) are welcome. Frequency The course is offered every autumn term (with changing topics). Hinweise zur Prüfung | The seminar is graded. Regular attendence, active participation in discussions, talk, and written report are requested. Accredibility and Requirements The Biogeographical Literature Seminar II (3CPs) is a seminar for advanced students. It is pri-marily offered to MSc students in environmental geosciences and geography. The seminar is also suitable for students of other curricula, such as MSc in Biology, Master in Sustainable Development or MA African Studies (please inquire with peter.nagel@unibas.ch, jan.beck@unibas.ch, or stefanie.vonfumetti@unibas.ch). Participants give a 45 minute talk, using suitable media support (e.g. PowerPoint slides), and provide a handout (incl. summary) of their talk to the audience. Extent and content of the talk and its written version (see below) is discussed prior to the talk during an appointment with the lecturer leading the seminar. Students provide a written report of their talk (15-30 pages), which has to be sent by the end of the lecture period (May 29th) at the latest. Sufficient consi-deration of primary literature is particularly requested for this report. |
