| Inhalt | More than just black and white: Governance the new paradigm for society, industry and the nation state? Visible and invisible environmental catastrophes like the dying of fish in the river Rhine or the knowledge about the negative impacts of pesticides led to a high public awareness of environmental problems. The emerging of the environmental movement promised to deliver clear offenders and victims: Environment and society had to be safeguarded against the criminal intents of industry. Law and regulations should tame the negative impacts of growth. Nowadays the understanding of efficient and effective policy has changed. Referring to the term governance different models of public-private (inter)action are discussed and widen the perspective to more soft and cooperative steering mechanisms. Voluntary agreements such as the Global Compact of the United Nations gain importance and blur the boundaries between polluters, responsible actors and affected groups. Companies publicly discuss their societal responsibility and try to find the balance between their sustainability mission statement and the economically driven relocation to countries with low social and environmental standards. Starting from the beginning of the environmental movement in the 70ies the seminar course touches the most relevant concepts in steering theory and analyses how environmentally important incidents and discourses (oil crisis, forest decline, sustainability, climate change) and the predominant concepts of society (e.g. risk society, network society) shape the understanding of good policies and politics. Current political approaches can then be questioned critically concerning their potential to affect societal development effectively. |
| Lernziele | The participants understand how the interdependencies of state, industry and society have changed over the last decades are familiar with the most important theoretical approaches on political steering and governance and are able to understand and discuss recent political changes in the sustainability field on this background. |

| Teilnahmevoraussetzungen | Studierende, die weder das verknüpfte Bachelorfach mind. im 5. Semester noch den MSD, den MAES, MGU, MA in Soziologie noch African Studies studieren, sind nur bei freien Kapazitäten zugelassen. Da die Teilnehmer/innen-Anzahl begrenzt ist, haben die Studierenden der erwähnten Studienangebote Vorrang. Zusätzliche Anmeldung über Flexiform für ALLE erforderlich (Details siehe unter Anmeldung). Anmeldungen über ISIS, OLAT, per Email oder in einer anderen Form werden NICHT berücksichtigt. |
