Content | Workshop with historian Dr. Malika Rahal, director of the Institut d'Histoire du Temps Présent in Paris: Algeria is a country whose modern history allows to dive into question as complex as settler-colonialism (during French colonization , 1832-1962), revolution and struggle against colonization, Arab socialism, as well as Islamism and civil violence (during the « Black Decade » of the 1990s). As such, it is a stimulating entry point into the histories of the Middle East and Africa from the 19th to the 21st centuries. This workshop aims to give the students an introduction into this rich history as well as invite them to think about the specificities of Present time history and Public history. |
