Content Aims of the seminar
This research seminar for advanced MA students and PhD candidates in Conversation Analysis aims at discussing the principles of Multimodal Conversation Analysis, as they are incarnated in fundamental notions and in a distinct methodology for producing transcribing and analysing video data. The seminar will be articulated in V parts: I. Principles, II. Video methodology, III. Multimodal transcription, IV. Single Case Analysis, V: Analysis of Collections. These 5 parts will be further developed in the presentation of diverse collections, with a focus on how they were made and which choices and options affected them. While previous knowledge of Conversation Analysis is expected, the aim is to provide for an in-depth understanding of the fundaments of multimodal CA.

Learning objectives The seminar supposes already a good knowledge of Conversation Analysis.

Assessment details Validation: An analysis of a fragment of video from the participants’ own corpora, duly introduced and concluded with a discussion of some choices in the video-recording and multimodal transcription, impinging on the possible analyses of the data chosen.
