| Content | This research seminar for advanced MA students and PhD candidates in Conversation Analysis follows the corresponding seminar given in the Fall 2025 (Fundamentals of Multimodal Conversation Analysis). It aims at deepening the topics and practices of Multimodal Conversation Analysis by focusing on specific phenomena that are grounded on complex embodied practices in social interaction. Hence, based on fundamental notions (temporality, sequentiality, indexicality, accountability, intersubjectivity…) and on the CA methodology for producing transcribing and analysing video data, this seminar will discuss a range of phenomena involving language and the body. Targeted areas of analysis will include embodiment, materiality, praxeological ecology and local environments, mobility, sensoriality and perception. Each topic will be the focus of a corresponding extended session, comprising a literature review, an introduction to the conceptual and analytical issues, a series of empirical examples to work on and presentations from ongoing research work. Previous knowledge of Conversation Analysis is expected, since the aim is to provide for in-depth developments and discussions of key topics in multimodal CA. |
