76283-01 - Practical course: Data Analysis Clinic (1 CP)

Content In this course, students will bring a problem from their PhD or master’s project to share with the class. Students will get tailored advice about the appropriate statistical analysis/approach for their data in this course. They will work on their problem with guidance from the instructor and peer support through regular online meetings and one intermediate meeting. At the end of the course, students will present their solution to the class.

Workshop 1: Introduction and organization, students’ presentation of their problem.
Workshop 2: Intermediate meeting to discuss progress and share strategies.
Workshop 3: Final presentations of students’ projects, discussion and feedback.
Week 2-Week 11: Weekly online tutoring on Wednesdays from 13:30 to 15:00 (depending on the number of students, 3-6 sessions per student)
Learning objectives - Students will gain hands-on experience using GitHub within RStudio for version control and collaboration
- Students will develop an R script tailored to analyze their specific research problem
- Students will contribute to a shared repository of R scripts, enhancing collective learning and code reusability

Admission requirements Participation is limited to 8 students, with priority given to DUW and PSC PhD students. Participants should have basic knowledge of R (for example, attendance of the 48662 Introduction to R or the PSC course “Introduction to R”) as well as a basic course in statistics.
Before the start of the course, please send an email to natacha.bodenhausen@unibas.ch including your PhD program or master’s program and a short description of your problem (5 sentences maximum).
