28848-01 - Seminar: Language on internet health sites (3 CP)

Content In this workshop based course we will first work on the theoretical fields of computer-mediated language and health communication and then develop research question for this communicative interface. After this we will explore the use of the English language on different types of Internet sites in English that topicalize health issues (e.g. peer-to-peer blog support sites; professional information sites; health insurance sites, etc.).
Learning objectives Students should learn about two research strands in linguistics (CMC and health) and gain experience in designing research projects.
Bibliography Seminal research articles will be made available in OLAT.

Admission requirements Open to BA post-introductory students (3rd year onwards) who have completed all the necessary requirements of the first two years of their studies in English linguistics and to MA English and MA SuK students.
Course application Please register for this course in MONA as well as in OLAT at the latest by 1 September 2011. The number of participants is restricted to 25. The OLAT registration counts.
