Content Data types, descriptive methods, statistical measures, normal distribution, parameter estimation and confidence intervals, basic notions and concepts of statistical tests, knowledge of the basic statistical tests, correlation, regression, analysis of variance, basic concepts of experimental design.

Week 1: Basic notions, random samples, tabular and graphical representations (C. Schindler)
Week 2: Measures of location and dispersion, distribution function, Box plots (C. Schindler)
Week 3: Normal and log-normal distribution (C. Schindler)
Week 4: Population parameters and parameter estimates, confidence intervals (C. Schindler)
Week 5: Fundamentals of hypothesis testing (C. Schindler)
Week 6: Comparison of means (C. Schindler)
Week 7: Comparison of relative frequencies and risks (C. Schindler)
Week 8: Simple linear regression and correlation (C. Schindler)
Week 9: Regression models (C. Schindler)
Week 10: Analysis of variance (C. Schindler)
Week 11: Experimental design I (G. Duran)
Week 12: Experimental design II (G. Duran)
Week 13: Experimental design III (G. Duran)
Week 14: Examination
Learning objectives Students know basic descriptive statistical methods. They understand fundamental concepts of inferential statistics and know basic analytic tools, including some regression modelling. They also know the principles of experimental design.
