Students will be informed about legal guidelines such as confidentiality laws in Switzerland and European regulations on data protection. Topical themes of our digital world such as access to data and information via the internet, censorships of internet sites, data privacy, electronic patient information, and internet safety will also be discussed in detail. The second part of the course involves student presentations and final report. The presentation topics will be discussed with students. |
Learning objectives | The aim of this course will be to introduce informatics students to ethical issues and concerns surrounding data protection and the internet. Students are expected to select practical topics that would benefit their research or on-going studies. Students could also choose topics related to current or social issues related to the internet and data protection. This presentation could be done individually or two students could choose to work in pairs. The final report on the presentation should be between 5–8 pages long.
